Coverage of Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric weight loss surgeries are major gastrointestinal operations that affect the stomach to reduce the amount of food you can eat and reduce the calories the body can absorb through the small intestine. There are several different procedures that fall under this category. These procedures always require precertification through Amerihealth Administrators. The approval of the surgery is based on medical appropriateness determined by strict criteria. The Fund currently covers a maximum of one surgery per member per lifetime. If considering this type of procedure please remember that you can reduce your out of pocket expense by choosing participating providers.
