Overview

The Legal Fund offers free legal services for a variety of common legal matters.
The lawyers at Spear Wildman can help with:
  • Divorce, custody, and adoption
  • Buying or selling a home
  • Debt collection and bankruptcy
  • Landlord/tenant issues
  • Living wills and powers of attorney
  • Traffic court (once per year)

Immigration Benefit

If you or one of your eligible dependents is seeking U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or deferred action, the Legal Fund is here to help.

The Legal Fund will pay for all attorney’s fees and filing fees for your or your dependents’ immigration applications, up to an annual maximum of $1,800 and a lifetime maximum of $4,500. Removal proceedings and court appearances are free of charge.

Eligibility

You’re eligible to participate in the Legal Fund if any of the following apply to you:
  • Your employer agreed under a collective bargaining agreement to make contributions to the Legal Fund on your behalf

  • You’re employed by the Plan

  • You’re a retired employee who was eligible to participate in the Legal Fund on your retirement date, you’re still a union member, and you’ve begun to receive Social Security or one of the pension plans
Your spouse is eligible to participate as long as you’re eligible and you both reside in the same household. Your dependent children are eligible as long as they’re unmarried, between ages 18 and 23, and full-time students at a college or university. Your eligible spouse and dependent children remain eligible for 90 days after your death.
